1. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device so it can recognize your browser on later visits. We also use similar technologies such as pixels, local storage, session storage, and SDK tokens. This policy covers all of them as “cookies” for simplicity.
2. Categories we use
| Category | Purpose | Examples | Consent | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keep the site secure, remember your consent choices, route your session, detect fraud, and deliver the pages you request. | Session cookie, CSRF token, consent-state cookie, load-balancer affinity. | No | Session to 12 months. |
| Preferences | Remember non-essential choices you make (for example, the amount slider, form progress on the application). | Apply-flow autosave token, region preference, UI toggle state. | Yes | 30 to 180 days. |
| Analytics | Understand how visitors use the site, which pages perform, and where users drop off, so we can improve the product. | Google Analytics 4 (via Google Tag Manager), Microsoft Clarity session-replay and heatmap cookies. | Yes | 14 months (GA4), 12 months (Clarity). |
| Advertising / Measurement | Measure the performance of our advertising, attribute applications to the campaign that drove them, and avoid showing repetitive ads. | Google Ads conversion tracking, Google Ads remarketing, campaign-attribution identifiers. | Yes | Up to 540 days. |
| Operational monitoring | Detect and diagnose errors in the application so we can fix them quickly. | Sentry error-monitoring cookies and request-ID headers. | No | 90 days. |
Strictly necessary and operational monitoring cookies do not require consent because they are essential for the site to function or to keep it secure. Everything else is off by default until you opt in.
3. Third parties named
The following third parties may set cookies or receive cookie-related data through our site. Each acts as an independent controller or processor as described in their own privacy notices.
| Vendor | Purpose | Privacy notice |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, Google Ads) | Tag management, product analytics, and conversion measurement for our advertising. | View |
| Microsoft (Clarity) | Session-replay and heatmap analytics to understand how visitors interact with our pages. We mask sensitive inputs and disable replay on the application flow. | View |
| Vercel | Hosting, edge network, and basic performance / audience analytics. | View |
| Sentry | Error and performance monitoring for the web application. | View |
Analytics and advertising cookies do not run on the application flow. We suppress Google Tag Manager and Microsoft Clarity on /apply/* so that sensitive information submitted during an application is never captured by third-party tags.
4. Retention periods
Retention is category-specific and is shown in the table above. First-party session cookies expire when you close the tab; persistent cookies expire on the window listed. You can clear cookies at any time using your browser's privacy controls.
5. How to opt out
- Consent banner:use the banner at the bottom of the page (or the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer) to opt in or out of each non-essential category at any time. Changes take effect immediately.
- Browser controls: your browser lets you block or delete cookies, including third-party cookies, in its privacy settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break parts of the site.
- Industry opt-outs: for ad measurement and interest-based advertising, use DAA WebChoices and NAI opt-out.
6. Global Privacy Control
We recognize the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal sent by your browser as a valid request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information and of cookie-based advertising. When we detect GPC, we treat the browser as opted out of advertising cookies even if you have not interacted with the consent banner.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as we add or remove vendors, adjust retention, or refine our consent tooling. The “last updated” date at the top of this page shows the current revision. Material changes will be surfaced through the consent banner and, where required by law, through direct notice.
